E-ZPass is an electronic toll collection system used throughout the northeastern and midwestern United States. It allows motorists to pay tolls automatically without stopping at toll booths. Here’s a bit more about how it works and where it's used:
How It Works
- Transponder Device: When you sign up for E-ZPass, you receive a small electronic device called a transponder. This device is typically mounted on the windshield of your vehicle.
- Automatic Toll Payment: As you drive through a toll plaza, antennas read the information stored on your transponder, and the toll amount is automatically deducted from your pre-funded E-ZPass account.
- Account Management: Users can manage their accounts online or via the E-ZPass mobile app, where they can add funds, view transactions, and manage multiple vehicles.
Usage
- Wide Acceptance: E-ZPass is one of the largest toll collection systems in the U.S., accepted on toll roads, bridges, and tunnels in 19 states, including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Illinois.
- Interoperability: The system is interoperable with several other tolling systems across the U.S., such as I-PASS in Illinois and the Ohio Turnpike.
Benefits
- Reduced Traffic Congestion: E-ZPass helps reduce traffic congestion by allowing vehicles to pass through toll points at highway speeds.
- Discounts: Many toll facilities offer discounted rates for E-ZPass users compared to cash prices.
E-ZPass is popular due to its convenience, efficiency, and the seamless travel it enables across multiple states, making it an essential service for frequent travelers in its coverage area. Download E-ZPass right now:
